Senior Retreat Sets the Foundation for Leadership

Our seniors and coaches were able to get together a couple of weeks ago for some leadership training and season planning.   Sheri Fraughton was able to secure the Searle’s cabin in Fairview for the night.

After a terrific dinner, we sat down as a leadership team to discuss the upcoming opportunities we have.  We reviewed some coach’s notes from last season and re-committed to using Coach Wooden’s pyramid of success as a blueprint for our goal setting.   Coach Knight led us in some trust/team building activities and we had some great laughs as well as a few tears as we realized our time together is finite.  I shared a few ideas as to the different kinds of leadership we are looking for from our seniors.

One of the most important goals for this meeting is to choose a “theme” for the season.  I was particularly impressed with the process our players went through to come to a consensus on our team theme.  And, I am excited to see how they will reveal it at our opening retreat on Nov. 9.   Finally, we discussed our team traditions and decided which ones we wanted to keep, discontinue, or add to.   We have some fun team traditions that will continue to improve as a result of this group’s efforts.
